How can I offer my students extra credit for attending a library workshop?
Thank you for encouraging your students to build their research skills by taking a library workshop!
Students who attend a library workshop will be issued a Proof of Attendance as a PDF file, which they can then provide to you. To learn about how this process works for students, please read our Student FAQ on Workshop Attendance.
About Proofs of Attendance
Our Proofs of Attendance include the following information:
- Student Name
- Student ID Number
- Workshop Title
- Workshop Date

How to Offer Extra Credit for Workshops
Method 1: Canvas Assignment (Recommended)
The easiest way to offer extra credit is to create an optional assignment in Canvas where students can provide you with their Proof of Attendance directly. Proofs of Attendance are provided to students as PDF files. We recommend setting up an assignment with an "Online" submission type that accepts File Uploads, as shown below.
Note: You may want to consider limiting the Upload File Types to PDF files. It is up to you whether or not you will accept screenshot images of students' Proof of Attendance; however, be aware that screenshots are easier to manipulate than PDFs.
Method 2: Email
Students receive their Proof of Attendance via email, so they can also forward this email to you directly.
This method may be more difficult to keep track of, especially if you are teaching several sections, so we only recommend using this method if a student is struggling to upload their PDF file to Canvas.
