How do I find the call number of a book?
Answer
The call number can be found in a book’s record in OneSearch, as well as on the spine label of the physical book. Think of the call number as the book’s “address”—it tells you exactly where to find it on the shelf. E-books don’t have call numbers, since you access them directly through a link.
In OneSearch results, the call number appears next to the book’s location. Most books are in the LAPC Stacks—the tall bookshelves throughout the library.

Books are arranged in alphabetical and numerical order by call number. For example, books starting with “A” are at the beginning of the Stacks, while those starting with “Z” are at the end. Each row of shelves has a sign showing the range of call numbers in that section.
To find a book, you can click the Map It button in OneSearch. This will show a map with a red icon indicating the book’s location. Be sure to note the row number, since each bookshelf is labeled to help you find the correct location.
