Why can't I access library databases and Digital Textbooks over the winter and/or summer?

Access to our library databases and Digital Textbooks are limited to students who are actively enrolled in courses for the current term, including winter and summer terms. 

Example: It's January and you took Fall classes at Pierce and are enrolled in Spring classes. You have some free time so you want to get a head start and use the Digital Textbook you know one of your professors will be using in the Spring term. You try to access the book but get the error message below. This is because it is January, which is part of the Winter term, and if you're not enrolled in a Winter term course, you will not have access to the library databases and Digital Textbooks.

Another example: It's a few days before the Fall term begins and one of your professor shares their Canvas page with you with links to a digital textbook through the library and a film from the database Kanopy which they want you to watch the first week but you can't login. This is because the Fall term has not officially begun. You will not be able to access the digital textbook or the Kanopy film until the official first day of the Fall term.

In these situations, you will see the following error message:

Sorry, but we’re having trouble signing you in. AADSTS50105: Your administrator has configured the application LACCD-EZProxy-LAPC ('22e168a3-b604-48bd-a511-d5da609ab336') to block users unless they are specifically granted ('assigned') access to the application. The signed in user '[EMAIL ADDRESS]' is blocked because they are not a direct member of a group with access, nor had access directly assigned by an administrator. Please contact your administrator to assign access to this application.
